Besides giving them an allowance, you can help your kids make extra money at home by helping you out with bigger chores or jobs around the house and yard. Not only do kids like to make extra money, teaching them good work habits goes a long way in helping them excel in their adult years with a variety of tasks, like house cleaning, cooking, yard work, and repair that come with living independently.
When we were growing up, my parents were constantly remodeling our house, and we were able to make extra money by helping them haul out drywall, concrete, old flooring, and things like that. We learned at a young age what it was like to start a project from start to finish, and see the end result, which was always rewarding. That's an extreme example, but if you have a backyard, you can help your kids make extra money by helping you plant a vegetable garden, which will bear more fruit than just food. Kids love to watch things grow, and not only will they make money at home, they will also see what it is like to actually raise some of their own food.
